Marvel actor Jonathan Majors' domestic violence trial was due to begin today, September 6, but has instead been delayed for a second time.
As reported by Deadline, the trial is now set to take place September 15 assuming it is not delayed again. Majors' defence lawyers said today there were "deficiencies" in discovery that needed to be addressed. The trial was originally due to take place August 3 but was delayed over the prosecution not being ready.
Majors appeared virtually for the hearing, with the full trial eventually determining if the actor will be convicted of misdemeanour charges and potentially spend up to a year in jail.
Majors was arrested on March 25 under charges of strangulation, assault, and harassment after a domestic dispute. The NYPD told IGN at the time the victim suffered minor injuries to her head and neck and was taken to hospital in a stable condition. He was dropped from his talent manager Entertainment 360 and PR firm The Lede Company in April.
In a statement released to IGN in August, Majors' lawyer Priya Chaudhry maintained the actor is innocent. "For an excruciating four months, Jonathan Majors, the real victim in this shameful ordeal, has had his life, career, and reputation torn apart. Yet he remains unwavering in his determination to be absolved from this harrowing ordeal," Chaudhry said.
