Up until recent times, the Like a Dragon series (formerly known as Yakuza) was considered a niche franchise outside of Japan. It wasn't until Yakuza 0's worldwide release in 2017 that the series skyrocketed into mainstream success with its emotional storytelling, unpredictable humor, and bombastic street-brawling action. However, this sudden fame can't be attributed to just one game. Instead, the series has steadily improved on its unique appeal since the release of its most divisive entry.
