Crunchyroll Acquires Haikyu!!, Blue Lock, and Overlord Films, Reveals Theatrical Release Dates for Two of Them

Popular anime streamer Crunchyroll took center stage on the first day of annual convention CinemaCon to share a number of acquisitions: Haikyu!! The Dumpster Battle, Blue Lock The Movie - Episode Nagi, and Overlord: The Sacred Kingdom.

They also announced North American release dates for the Haikyu!! and Blue Lock films. We'll walk you through it all below:

Haikyu!! The Dumpster Battle, the latest film for the beloved slice-of-life volleyball anime, is slated to release in North American theaters in Japanese and English on May 31, 2024, per Crunchyroll's announcement today.

Haikyu!! centers on a diminutive volleyball player named Shoyo Hinata pursuing his dreams of becoming as great as his school's legendary player, "Little Giant." Along the way, Hinata learns to mesh his differing volleyball style with his rival, Tobio Kageyama, to make their underdog team a force to be reckoned with.

Haikyu!! The Dumpster Battle sees Hinata's team finally face off against their school's rival, Nekoma High, in a highly anticipated match between volleyball's biggest underdogs that fans have been dying to see.

The popular death-game-inspired soccer anime Blue Lock, meanwhile, is getting its first original film.

After coming in 16th place in the FIFA World Cup, a mysterious organization invites hundreds of promising young and egotistical soccer players to an uber competitive training camp called Blue Lock program to discover the best players in Japan. The catch: disqualified are banned from representing Japan on the international stage.

Whereas Blue Lock follows protagonist Yoichii Isagi's journey, the original fillm instead centers on fan-favorite character Seishirou Nagi's journey from being an aimless second-year high schooler to becoming one of he most fearsome Blue Lock prospects.

Blue Lock The Movie - Episode Nagi will hit North American theaters in English and Japanese on June 28, 2024.

The fan-favorite fantasy isekai series, Overlord, will continue in movie form via Overlord: The Sacred Kingdom.

Overlord follows a salaryman named Momonga who is whisked away into the world of his favorite MMORPG video game. The film, which picks up after the events of Overlord Season 4, sees the once-peaceful Sacred Kingdom fall to ruin after an invasion by the Demon Emperor Jaldaboath and his fearsom army of demi-humans. To prevent neighboring kingdoms from suffering a simillar fate, Momonga — now known as the Sorcerer King Ains Ooal Gown — must amass The Sorcerer Kingdom's undead army to put an end the Demoon Emperor's villainous crusade.

Overlord: The Sacred Kingdom's theatrical release will be announced at a later date.

The wholesome and action packed spy-thriller anime film, Spy x Family Code White is coming to North American theaters in English and Japanese on April 19, 2024. We already knew about the release date, but Crunchyroll also showed off 10 minutes of preview footage to those in attendance at CinemaCon (which unfortunately has not been released online).

Spy x Family follows a spy named Loid Forger who's tasked executing Operation Strix: an undercover mission to infiltrate the school of a prominent politician's son to prevent a devistating war from breaking out between two neighboring nations. To achieve his mission, Loid assembles a fake family who, unbeknownst to him, are their own secrets. Those secrets being the fact that his dauther Anya, is a teleepath, his wife, Yor, is a deadly asssassisn, and his dog, Bond, can see into the future.

The plot of Spy x Family Code: White sees Loid receive an order saying he's on the verge of being replaced from Operation Strix. In order to prevent his reassingment, Loid plans a family trip in the hopes that visiting the birthplace of Anya's priciipal's favorite meal will asssisst her in winning her school's baking competition. Things quickly go awry, forcing the Forgers to unite their hidden talents to prevent a cataclysmic event from threatening world peace.
