A movie's end should bring a sense of closure. While a good ending shouldn't be entirely predictable, it should certainly match what came before it. Sometimes, however, an ending will miss the mark. It might try to be too clever or come as such a huge surprise that it doesn't provide any satisfaction for the audience.
