Look out, a new generation of Sony’s top-of-the-line wireless earbuds is heading our way. The company’s WF-1000XM5 earbuds (it rolls right off the tongue) are up for preorder. They’re out soon — July 27, in fact — and you can get a brand-new pair for $299.99, or $298 at Amazon.

They come in your choice of white or black, and they feature pretty much everything you’d want in wireless earbuds. They offer AI-driven active noise cancellation, so you can use them on a plane or while mowing the lawn or as you rock a crying baby to sleep (have you heard babies? They're loud).
The buds have high-res audio, with a “specially designed driver unit for deep bass and clear vocals.” That's the marketing copy, but they do have a new chip in them designed for just that purpose. They’ll even pause your music if they pick up the sound of you talking, which is honestly quite thoughtful.
As with all Bluetooth earbuds, you can make phone calls with them, but unlike many others you can connect two devices at once. And the batteries in these earbuds are no slouch, either. You get up to eight hours on a single charge, or 24 hours if you put them back in their case between uses. Sony says charging them for three minutes gets you an hour’s worth of playback, which is long enough for a healthy jog around the neighborhood.
