Watchmen was created by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons as a deconstruction of the superhero genre. While no team ever calls themselves "The Watchmen" or anything like it in the 12-issue series, Rorschach, Silk Spectre, Nite-Owl, Doctor Manhattan, Comedian and Ozymandias explored the meaning of superheroes through a dark, violent lens. However, the original story effectively ended their tales, and readers have yet to get a story dedicated to these heroes when they were in their prime and working together.
