Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies broke new barriers by introducing more diversity to the Grease franchise. One especially refreshing character is Nancy Nakagawa, a Japanese American student at Rydell High who aspires to be a fashion designer. Notably, Nancy doesn't embody stereotypes usually associated with Asian characters, particularly Asian women, who are portrayed as either subservient and dutiful or exotic and evil. Instead, Nancy is outspoken, creative, chaotic, and unapologetically herself, which makes her exciting to watch. Another key part of her life that defies stereotypes is her relationship with her parents.
