Tarkir was a watershed moment for Magic: The Gathering, even if all the things the set has done are not fully remembered. The story and gameplay of the game as a whole were both affected by this set block going forward in ways that people may not even realize. Now it's been announced at Gencon 2023 that a new set, codenamed "Ultimate," will return Magic players to that set after eight years.
