The horror genre runs deep. Tones, themes, and types of scares all vary from film to film, but it is also a deeply referential genre; sometimes those inspirations and homages can come from unexpected places. Two iconic genre films, David Lynch's Eraserhead and Stanley Kubrick's The Shining, are linked by more than a coincidental atmosphere and tone: Kubrick directly drew from the Lynch film as inspiration and those references and ideas can be seen and felt throughout the Stephen King adaptation.
